Hold, Grasp, and Speed priorities, what each tool does (Dynamite, Pitchfork, Vacuum, Hay Drone), and when permanent gamepasses are worth the Robux.

Quick answer

Buy Hold first, then Grasp and Speed

Search For The Needle best upgrades and tools: priority order for Hold, Grasp, and Speed, plus what Search For The Needle vacuum, dynamite, pitchfork, and drone do in-game. Capacity is your earliest bottleneck: Hold increases how much hay your bag carries, cutting down on walks back to the cow.

Stat upgrades

Hold, Grasp and Speed

The three core repeatable stats every run relies on.

Hold

Bag capacity. Bigger bags mean fewer sell trips — the highest-impact early upgrade and the reason new players should buy it first.

Grasp

How much hay you grab per pull. Stacks directly with Hold: you gather more per click into a larger bag.

Speed

Movement speed between the hay pile and the cow. Best bought after Hold and Grasp are underway — moving fast with an empty bag doesn't help much.

Shelf prices

What the in-run shelves actually charged

Every number below was read off one played session of the 2026-09-21 build, grouped by the shelf it sits on. These are Cash prices inside a round, not published rates: one build, one session, and a patch can move any of them. Check the shelf you are standing at before you spend.

Hand upgrades

Hold
$1.00
Switches holding from tap-by-tap to holding down to collect
Showed MAXED right after purchase in that session.
Speed
$0.25, then $0.50
Collection interval 0.55s to 0.50s, then 0.50s to 0.45s
Two steps were bought and shown.
Grasp
$0.25, then $0.50
Hay per pull 1 to 2, then 2 to 3
Two steps were bought and shown.

Barn tools

Pitchfork
$8.00
Wide sweeps through a hay pile
Dynamite
$25.00 per round
Blasts a patch of hay clear
The same shelf offered 29 Robux for one round or 149 Robux permanent; the player paid the $25.00 Cash option.

Bag capacity

150 to 250
$10.00
Bag holds 250 hay
The shelf also offered 9 Robux to skip the Cash cost.
250 to 500
$25.00
Bag holds 500 hay, then the shelf reads MAXED

Two things that shelf read settles: Hold is a one-off $1.00 that maxes itself, so the repeatable Cash sink is Grasp and Speed, and the bag ladder stops at 500 — the same round paid out +120 and +67 Gems on its results panel. The panel does not label what each Gems line is for, so the split stays unreported here.

Tools

Dynamite, Pitchfork, Vacuum and the Hay Drone

Clearing tools that unlock during runs — each also has a permanent gamepass version that auto-unlocks every round.

Dynamite

Blasts a patch of hay clear at once — great for carving paths into the pile quickly. It comes with its own upgrade ladder in-game.

Pitchfork

Wide sweeping grabs — pairs naturally with large bag capacities for full-pile sweeps.

Vacuum

The premium clearing tool that initially appeared as '???' in the shop. Powerful clearing draw, priced accordingly.

Hay Drone

Automates hay gathering while you focus on spotting the needle — ideal for players who want to reduce manual collecting.

Common mistakes

Three upgrade traps

Avoid these three common mistakes in your first hour.

  • - Buying tools before Hold: High clearing speed on a tiny bag just means you are constantly walking back to the cow.
  • - Neglecting Speed: Grasp without Speed leaves you crawling back to the cow with a heavy bag.
  • - Spinning classes too early: Permanent stat upgrades help every future run; early spins cost 40 Gems and usually land the 40% Starter.
Stuck-state recovery

When progress stalls

Quick adjustments if your loop feels sluggish.

  • - Cash feels slow: Your sell trips are too frequent — put your next Cash into Hold, and prioritize rainbow flakes.
  • - Gems feel slow: Finish full piles instead of resetting; completion pays Gems, and Chapter 2 adds +25 Gems on escape.

Permanent vs per-round

Stat upgrades stay with your character; tools reset each round unless you buy the permanent gamepass.
